Mithril makes a conscious effort to reduce our production waste. In offering exclusively single colored prints, we reduce overall print times and reduce the amount of plastic waste produced. This also means we free up print capacity for companies who need it the most — like those involved in manufacturing or industrial work.
Multicolored toys and gadgets coming from "print farms" produce substantial waste. The more colors, the more waste. Every time a color change happens, a printer must "purge" old filament left over in the nozzle. This purge is waste and can happen upwards of a hundred times on a single print cycle. So please, don't buy into the "natural" or "eco-friendly" story you are being told about PLA, it isn't entirely true.
Sure, PLA is "biodegradable", but only under certain conditions — such as constant temperatures above 140F, in the presence of specific microorganisms not readily available in nature, and in a high moisture environments. In practice, it's also almost never recycled either as it takes too long to decompose and cannot be mixed with other plastics. This usually results in it being either incinerated or dumped into a landfill.
This is just one of the many reasons Mithril chooses to exclusively print single colored prints.
